I hunted the river bottoms and mtns above them one of them was the Bluestone River and Little Bluestone River. Lots of Papaws, acorns and grapes but this is rough country. It was a 10 mile walk up and back not including going to the tree. It usually took me until 3 or 4 in the morning or by the time i got back home. The best night i ever had was hunting Dagger and the Cat pups. Dagger treed 11 coons on that river that night 8 singles and a triple. The 3 night record was 3 nights in a row hunting 3 different areas. We treed 21 coons in 3 nights. The 1st night treed 5 coons the 2nd treed 9 coons and the 3rd treed 7 coons. These was not all singles but its still impressive to me. Dagger taught me alot about hunting and how a dog thinks i trained 2 Catahoulas and a black lab to tree with him. I didnt have tracking collars back then and I never lost him until the last night i hunted him. When i found him next day he seemed different next couple of days he was off his feed i took him to the vet and he was eat up with cancer. I brought him home and in 2 days i put him down. Dagger was tops and taught me a bunch I've been blessed to have so many good dogs. Keep lookin up folks thats where it counts!

Awesome stories. I love a good crossed up dog and the best dog I’ve owned was a silent old cur dog that I got as a broke dog and have no idea what she was. She ended up having cancer and like you I had to put her down shortly after a visit to the vet.
